In addition to providing veterinary services for dogs, cats, and rabbits we also see other small pocket pets, such as ferrets, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and gerbils.

    SURGICAL SERVICES

Surgery is generally divided into soft tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery.

Orthopedic surgeries focus on bones, tendons, and joints (e.g. fracture and ligament repair); while soft tissue surgeries encompass abdomen, chest, mouth and skin, (e.g. bowel, bladder and wound repair).

Veterinary surgeons are trained in basic surgery, but just as in human medicine, the expertise needed for advanced procedures often requires additional specialisation and a referral to a specific specialist will be recommended.

If your pet does end up needing surgery, we will do everything we can to make things as smooth and painless as possible -- both for you and for your pet.

Surgery always requires the use of an anaesthetic. Please see the section on Anaesthesia for more information.

Taking a pet home after surgery or treatment can be a worrying time for owners as they care for their pet during recovery time. We sincerely understand the stress you feel and we are just a phone call away so please don’t hesitate to call us and put your mind at rest.

Please go to Post Surgery Care for more information on the necessary procedures and guidelines for your pet once he/she leaves our veterinary centre.

NEUTERING (Spaying and Castration)

Neutering is a good way to help your pet live a long, healthy life. Neutering your pet prevents unwanted pregnancies, decreases marking, roaming and dominance behaviour, and can even dramatically decrease the risk of some types of cancer.

Neutering is one of the most common operations performed in veterinary clinics.

Pain medication is always sent home to be given for the next specified number of days while he/she heals. Please go to Post Surgery Care for more information.

Spaying (females)
Ovariohysterectomy is the removal of ovaries and uterus. Spaying your female pet prevents unwanted pregnancies, decreases the drive to be mated and can even dramatically decrease the risk of some types of cancer! There are a number of very important health concerns that are practically eliminated after a female is spayed.

Castration (males)
Castration is the removal of testicles. Castrating your male pet prevents unwanted mating and pregnancies, decreases marking, roaming and dominance behaviour, and can even dramatically decrease the risk of some types of cancer!
