Welcome to our Polden Hills Veterinary Centre pet care information and education section. We want to help you be an informed pet owner because we know that you want to provide the best possible care for your pets.
Caring for your pet is such an important part of pet ownership and each pet is unique. Please feel free to come in and talk to us about your needs and concerns regarding pet care.
Your pet relies on you everyday for its happiness, health, and well-being. Brushing, bathing, nail and teeth care, and attention to your pet's nutritional needs are important parts of daily pet care. Taking care of your pet is a job that last all year long. As the seasons change, preparations should always be made for the change in weather and parasite or disease control.

Before taking your pet on a trip you should take into consideration how safe and comfortable is it for your pet to travel. Some pets travel better by car, whereas others travel better by air. Still other pets are better off remaining in familiar surroundings. Whatever you plan to do, advance planning and preparation are necessary when traveling with your pet.

Only a healthy pet is a happy companion. Assuring your pet's daily well-being requires regular care and close attention to any hint of ill health. We suggest that you consult with us if your pet shows any unusual signs.

Your pet should be seen urgently if he/she:

  • Is having difficulty or laboured breathing
  • Is unconscious
  • Has not urinated or defecated
  • Is having difficulty urinating
  • Has diarrhoea
  • Is having difficulty walking
  • Is lethargic
  • Has a distended abdomen
  • Has significant bleeding
  • Is in pain
  • Or is behaving in any unusual way

Call us immediately at 01278 722088. If after hours please hold and wait until you are connected to the paging service. We are here to help you when your pet has an emergency!
