As clients are not aware of what dental work on their pet involves they would be unaware of the quality of work and potential suffering their pets could experience. So we made it our goal to build a fully equipped Dental Suite, provide good dentistry, invest in and use the proper specialised dental equipment, and to educate our clients on what dentistry involves.
At Polden Hills Veterinary Centre we offer comprehensive dental checkups and cleanings to identify and correct problems. We take extreme care to perform excellent dental surgery with minimal post surgery suffering as possible. We endeavour to train staff and ensure anyone working at our practice adheres to the highest standards.

Please do not underestimate the importance of your pet’s dental care. Dental disease affects the entire body… it is not just bad breath and dirty teeth.

DENTAL EXAMINATION
We routinely assess your pet's dental health at every regular physical examination.
We look for signs of dental problems including: bad breath, plaque, red and swollen gums, a yellow or brown tartar buildup around the gums, broken or worn teeth, or masses or swellings along the gums. Any of these problems need to be addressed before they cause permanent damage.
It is easy to make the mistake about the severity of your pet’s teeth because the pet may still be eating. Animals will eat even when they are in pain because it is a survival instinct (in the wild a weak or sick animal becomes prey). By the time they actually resist food they are often suffering significant pain – please don’t wait until that stage to help your pet.
An initial assessment can be given in the examination room, but we don’t know exactly what dental procedures need to be performed until we have examined each tooth in detail under general anaesthesia, and have taken dental radiographs. For this reason, we ask that you book a dental procedure on a day that you can be reached by phone, should we find unexpected problems that need to be addressed.
Our goal at Polden Hills Veterinary Centre is to prevent these problems from ever happening through good, regular dental care.
