PET LOSS
CLIENT CARE ROOM

Having to say good-bye to your beloved pet is a very emotional and difficult time and we will make it as peaceful and easy as possible. We truly understand your grief and believe that you should have the privacy and comfort in a specially designed environment to spend the last moments with your pet.
At Polden Hills Veterinary Centre we have a Client Care Room designed especially for you. This is something not commonly found in veterinary practices but it is something we, John and Margaret, had in mind when we looked for a clinic.
Typically in other veterinary clinics you will find pets are euthanised in the consulting room which is impersonal, cold, and sterile. It is not comfortable for you or your pet and other clients are waiting to be seen which often causes clients to think they are in the way. This has always felt wrong to us and we vowed to change it in our practice.

At Polden Hills Veterinary Centre there will be no surgical table and cold sterile environment, instead you will find warm décor, a warm comfortable sofa and an oversized specially ordered footstool for your pet to rest on safely and comfortably. This calm, peaceful, and very private space is for you to spend time with your pet!

Another important factor we considered when designing this special room was to provide a private and comfortable space away from the waiting room.

We want you to feel that you may take as much time as you need before and after putting your pet to sleep.

One of our veterinary surgeons will prepare your beloved pet for euthanasia by inserting a catheter (intravenous line) and administering a sedative to relax and calm your pet. This means your pet will not be in pain nor will it have to be restrained while you spend time saying good-bye. Instead you will be able to spend time cuddling and sitting with your pet until you are ready for your pet to be put to sleep by our veterinary surgeon.

You will not feel hurried or in the way – this space is for you, your family and your special friend as you say good-bye! You may spend as long as you need with your pet and when ready we will allow you to leave through the emergency exit should you chose to do so, without having to go through the waiting area.

Your pet's comfort and dignity is our highest priority. We are also very concerned about you and the grief you experience, and we strive to help you through this sad, often heart breaking decision with the gentlest and kindest approach possible.
