You may have noticed that the pharmacy has been moved to a more secure area so that all drugs can be carefully controlled. All drugs must be dispensed by a veterinary surgeon as per the RCVS regulations.
The use of medication may not be appropriate if your pet requires immediate treatment or is currently under in-house care.
Prescription medicines will be issued for a maximum of 3 months (28 days for controlled drugs). This is in line with guidelines issued by the Society of Practicing Veterinary Surgeons.
For a pet that requires repeat prescriptions our general policy at Polden Hills Veterinary Centre is to re-assess your pet 3 - 6 months, but this may vary with individual circumstances. The key reason for doing a re-assessment is to ensure that your pet’s condition still requires the medication and prescribed dose. As with any illness the conditions may change and the correct medication is critical.
Please contact us should you have any questions or concerns about the medication, or if you need some help learning to administer the medication.

Specialised Medical Fridge
We purchased a special fridge to house our vaccines and drugs. This temperature controlled fridge holds the temperature at a constant 4 degrees and has an alarm to warn if the temperature changes. Keeping vaccines and drugs at the regulated temperature is critical for the quality of the drug we use on your pet and complies with the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) regulations
