ABOUT US
OUR STORY

We, John and Margaret, always had the dream to find a clinic that was in a good community; one we could honestly feel was ours for the long term, somewhere to make our own and to call it our home.

We have both worked in many clinics and in a few countries and seen a wide variety of good and not so good veterinary practices. This only furthered our belief that it is important to create a small animal practice where we would live on the property to ensure 24 hour supervision of pet care and comfort, and be fully involved and invested in the staff and clients.

We found it – Polden Hills Veterinary Centre.

The clinic was previously owned by Peter MacKay and Richard Taylor, and was called MacKay and Taylor Veterinary Surgeons. Peter and Richard started the practice in 1976 and provided farm animal, equine, and small animal veterinary services, which they sold separately when they decided it was time to retire. We know they were looking forward to their retirement and trust they are enjoying themselves.  CLICK HERE for a Brief history of the practice.

We were fortunate enough to buy the small animal practice and named it Polden Hills Veterinary Centre.

Part of our plan has been to upgrade facilities, do a major renovation to the reception/waiting area and to the older part of the building, with the purpose to incorporate more usable specialised veterinary space. The improvements already made to the facilities and standards are vast and will continue to be underway over an extended period. We (John and Margaret) would love the opportunity to give you a tour.

The upstairs area has been improved to allow for sleeping accommodation, in accordance with the planning permission granted in 2005.

Previously no one was available on the premises after hours, but now we (John and Margaret) are on the premises to take care of animals after hours – your pet will never feel abandoned while in our care! We are available in emergencies and to oversee that in-house patient care is always met.

We will always work to consistently improve facilities, standards and care for your pets with a personal touch.

Please go to Facilities for a virtual tour and to view the current changes and Future Plans (News & Events).
